United Nations and Spirulina

Convention for the Use of Food Micro-Algae and the Intergovernmental Institution for the Use of Spirulina against Malnutrition declaration has been established. Further, observed status has been granted for micro-algae products for the work of the Global Economics. It seems that this is greatly aiming to encourage greater attention to the production and use of Spirulina. As a result, this tiny little blue-green algae has been treated the candidate of the future to reduct world-wide hunger and poverty and to combat the food crises overall, while to improve the prospects for sustainable development.
Furthermore, calls upon Member States, United Nations agencies and other intergovernmental organizations has been announched as well as non-governmental organizations and the private sector due to encourage the production and use of Spirulina. In addition, emphasizes the importance of assisting national activities for the production and use of Spirulina has been promoted.
In terms of the most important benefits in people personal health, UN has pointed out capabilities of Spirulina to produce enzymes and anti-oxidants vital for everybody.

In short, Spirulina has an impressive long list of the most desirable values among people´s wellbeing.

Humanity Issues & Why Algae?

At Prolgae Spirulina Supplies Ltd our goal is to play an effective role in making the world better place for us all and we are implementing our vision by providing one inspirational solution for food and energy sustainability.
From what we have gone through, it’s brought us to discover potentials in algae and that prompted a new business venture that stays committed until today, to unleash the benefits of the unique unicellular organisms to contribute to humankind success.

Hunger, malnutrition, waste water as well as energy and food crisis are major phenomenon threatening populations in many parts of the world. Emerging economies and the growing world population rely heavily on the natural resources of the earth. Therefore sustainable production of food and energy are necessary if we do not want to exploit all the available natural resources.
In addition, there is a need for an alternative for the fossil fuels. Currently the society focuses on the sustainable production and efficient use of energy. One such alternative is the “Micro-algae”, also called phytoplankton by biologists. They are sunlight-driven cell factories that convert carbon dioxide to various products including bio-fuels, foods, feeds and high-value bio-actives.

These photosynthetic microorganisms are not only suitable for environmentally friendly production of many commodities, but can also be used in bioremediation applications in order to achieve the eco-friendly environment for the living forms.
The cultivation of microalgae can make an important contribution for the development of sustainable society or bio-based economy. Microalgaes are very common, hundreds of thousands species exist, and occur both in freshwater and seawater where they form the basis for most food chains.

They are chosen for cultivation according to nutritional value, farming easiness, size and type of cell wall (spirulina vs. chlorella). Microalgae can utilize carbon dioxide from fuel gases, residual water of agro-industrial companies and even diluted digestive from manure for carbon source. In return they produce valuable raw materials including oil, proteins, starch, anti-oxidants and pigments.

Considerations

When choosing your Sprirulina producer you should always take care that the company follows 100% Organic Cultivation process. USDA and ECOCERT certifications are the most trusted proofs of that. Below is a short description of PAHs and heavy metals, ie. possible drawbacks if the process or the  environment of the cultivation do not meet the strict certification criterias. But ours do -  you can always count that the products of the Prolgae Spirulina Supplies are constantly proved to be the best-in-class and thus free of all unwanted contaminations. That fact is our closely and constantly guarded point of honor.

What is PAH?

Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a CMR group of compounds (carcinogenic, mutagentic and reprotoxic) that accumulate in the environment because of its persistent, bio-accumulative character. PAH enters the environment through air and eventually gets into the food chain, accumulating in the fatty tissues when consumed - causing irreparable damage. Among more than 100 different PAH identified, 16 have been found to have potential impact - four of which have been identified as more critical (PAH 4). Limits have been fixed for the same in various foods - including algae - by EU regulation 2015/1993. Exposure to these PAHs is linked to lung, liver and skin cancers.

What are Heavy Metals?

Heavy metals are relatively dense metals or metalloids that are potentially toxic for human consumption. They can bind to cellular components such as structural proteins, enzymes, nucleic acids and interfere with their function.
